Certified translation

What is a certified translation?

There are numerous circumstances in which you may need a certified translation, especially for legal documents such as birth or marriage certificates, and others intended for official purposes.

At Lingfy, we offer different certified translation options, tailored to your needs.

Certification by a notary, chamber of commerce and industry, lawyer or solicitor

This type of certification is very common in Portugal, for example in nationality application processes or applications for admission to public institutions. This process guarantees that the translation matches the original document and a certificate is issued.

When the certified translation is destined for other countries, we include an additional translation of the certificate into the target language. This service is included at no extra cost.

Apostille

The Apostille is a certification that guarantees the authenticity of public acts for countries that are signatories to the Hague Convention. This process is managed in Portugal by the Attorney General’s Office and first requires a notarial certification.

After this stage, we can request the Apostille, which officially recognises the validity of the translated document in the destination country. Contact us for a quote.

Translation certified by a consulate/embassy

For countries outside the Hague Convention, it is necessary to check with the organisation in the country concerned which certification is required. Often, certification is required directly at consulates or embassies.

Our certificate

We issue an official statement, signed and stamped, certifying that the translation has been carried out by a professional translator and is faithful to the original document. This service is suitable for those who need independent certification.

Documents that may require certification:

  • Birth, marriage or death certificates
  • ID cards and driving licences
  • Certificates of qualification and diplomas
  • Contracts, deeds, licences and criminal records
  • Medical and financial reports
  • Divorce judgements
